After reading the Kickasola article I was interested in actually seeing examples of the film.  Some of the key scenes mentioned in the article are available online:

Weronika meets Véronique, mentioned on page 248 last paragraph.

The death of Weronika, given a close reading by Krakasola on page 250.

The marionette show, second to last paragraph pg. 251.

The glass ball mentioned in various sections (pg. 248 p1, 255 p1, 260 p1, 261 p2, 286 p2)

What I found most striking was the death scene.  My own reading focused on features that were not mentioned by Kickasola.  For example, the conductor came across to me also as a puppeteer,  serving the role of a “pseudo-God” (pg. 262) which she can not escape this time.  The choice of clothing worn by Weronika seems intentional, especially the prominent positioning of the white knotted “bowtie” on her chest, which draws parallels to the cord on the music binder (pg. 252) and the scarf (pg.  251) which in the context of this film connotes passage, tension and mortality (symbolism with links to mythology and goddesses of fate and threads of life?).  Finally I found the duet scene (1:09 to 1:18) haunting and creepy and I would assume placed into the film intentionally by the director (to indicate passage and transference to another life.
