Just a quick little rant.
I’ve noticed some non-tech products using “High Definition” and “3D”. I believe they’re doing it because HD TV and 3D movies are trendy right now.
In Steak n’ Shake’s defense, they seem to be doing it tongue-in-cheek…and Steak ‘n Shake is awesome.
Anyway, back to work!

I love the men’s electric razor commercials that require a shirtless man to tap an ipad to understand how awesome that Norelco really is.

I completely understand this rant, Jeremy, and I think graphic/visual designers are often unwitting agents in propagating this type of nonsense. It often manifests as “B” level marketing (at best!), when the agency, client, or both are too lazy to seek out a fresh idea, and instead grasp a cliché. Instead of iterating on that cliché to make something new (which is how basically all design trends work over time, it would seem), they stop at a direct copy. I have been asked to do work like this in the corporate setting, including a theme or two around “3-D”, because many execs find resonance in popular marketing terms, and if the design process never has time to mature, the ideas stay too closely coupled to the primary generator.
