Ok. I’m just going to say. Carl Freedman’s “The Critical Dynamic: Science Fiction and Style” from Critical Theory and Science Fiction was over my head.

I tried really hard to understand and grasp what Freedman was saying, but I couldn’t seem to reach it. Freedman’s use of language, mostly words I barely knew or didn’t know at all, coupled with his long sentences made this paper hard to ‘get’. I found myself thoroughly confused and re-reading many paragraphs over and over. By the end of the paper I was not only confused, but had become frustrated and started to feel a bit stupid.

Did anyone come away from this reading with a grasp of what Freedman was really trying to say?
