Not sure if you guys have seen this before but I came across it today and the timing was too serendipitous to not post it!  See info here:

Basically, the Bechdal test is a way to gauge the presence of active female characters in movies.  It consists of three simple questions:

1. Does the movie have 2 or more (named) women?
2. Do they talk to each other?
3. Do they talk to each other about something other than a man?

Both websites I listed above have looooooong lists of movies that fail this test but I’ll name just a few here:

The Dark Knight
District 9
Slumdog Millionaire
Terminator Salvation
GI Joe
Shrek
Watchmen
Bourne Supremacy
Bourne Identity
Transformers
Bruno
Hackers
Ghostbusters

What do you guys think about this test?  Is it a valid way to assess the presence of women (or particularly strong female characters) in films?  What would a feminist think of this?
