Peter Greenaway’s adaptation of The Tempest has come to mind several times in the last couple of weeks. I think his use of the language of film is simultaneously fascinating and disturbing. I don’t think you’ll ever see a pan/tracking shot like the one in the first portion of this movie — starting at 7:10, this one 3 minute portion of movie is ripe for a semiotic analysis. But, I have neither the time nor the energy to do such a writing.
